Exclusive Guide to Spring/Summer 2018 Fashion Trends

This month we discover Spring/Summer top trends, Nicky's must-haves, how to glow in winter, plus book your place on NHJ Style Academy's new personal styling course and learn the style secrets from Nicky herself.

Scream for ice-cream! Ice-cream colours are big news but the twist this season is lavender. Not an easy one to wear so translate it into the everyday with snippets. Do denim proper with tailored suiting, jackets, jeans, shorts and jumpsuits. Goodbye distressed and washed out and hello darker, smarter, sophisticated work denim. Make a statement with the suped-up trench coat. Elaborate with distressing, fringing, bold colour, embroidery, big sleeves and prints.

Be brave with bold primary bright colours. Go full block head-to-toe or have fun clashing, mashing, mixing and matching separates. For the real fashion-forward, fabrics are sheer to show off your undergarments or synthetic with edge. Make plastic, rubber and vinyl more wearable with a mac style raincoat, shoes and rubberised bags. The Pencil skirt is the biggest most wearable trend of the season. Pair with spiky kitten heals and ankle socks for a cutsie look or keep it real with tights. Embellished, printed, with slits or without, high-waisted, low-waisted. Wear with a blouse or dress down with a T.

The big bottom update is shorts. Cast aside your skirts and go mini, long-line and even cycling! Lace or leather, denim or cotton, anything goes – just keep it structured. The slip dress is the dress of the season - embellished and sequinned. Cinch in the waist with last season’s corset belt. Checks are the new floral. Invest in new checks or pull out your A/W ’17 checks and layer them up.

Polka dots and more polka dots. Swap your nautical stripes for rainbow stripes. Accessorise with the bum bag (wear with high-waistlines) and multiple bags (small and big). Add trim and texture to jackets and blouses with feathers and fringes.

Get the look with Nicky's must-haves; "I'll be investing in an embellished trench, tailored shorts and lots of pencil skirts, as well as some key denim pieces, like a denim jumpsuit paired with gold strappy sandals."

Get your glow and hydrate skin with a good moisturiser. Nicky's favourite is Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel moisturiser - light, super hydrating and inexpensive. Scale back the foundation and bronzer. Pep up dark and dull skin with a tinted moisturiser or BB cream with an iridescent finish. For extra coverage, use a concealer and dust cheeks with a little blusher. Choose a stronger pigmented lipstick for an immediate colour boost. Do your body a favour, cut out sugar and cut down on the alcohol, to give your liver a chance to re-generate post Christmas. Then grab a morning shot of Turmeric. This wonder spice is Nicky’s secret to keeping healthy. Mix a teaspoon of ground turmeric with a little water for anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antioxidant, immune boosting goodness.
