There’s one trend for spring/summer you can work right now, whatever the weather, no matter what your shape and size: The Bow. Whether as a functional fastening, pussy-bow blouse or as a detail in accessories, bows are going to be big news across the high street this season thanks to countless designers adorning their collections with the detail du jour.

Take the romantic route with ruffles and soft knits punctuated with a leather bow belt like Marc Jacobs or accessorise your new season suit with a bow inspired by Erdem. Perhaps you’ll dare to go all out Eighties as seen at Richard Quinn, combining the statement bow with a puffball dress and showing that animal print is going nowhere fast.

While large bows as structural detailing will inevitably add volume to your silhouette, you may use this in your favour to balance your shape: a statement bow up top will balance wide hips, while bows further down the body draw the eye down and balance broad shoulders.

Style tip: Update a ponytail with a bow hair tie to add polish to a simple up-do in a hurry.
