Spring Summer 17 Trends: Statement Sleeve

One of the big trends coming through for spring summer 2017 is the statement sleeve. Last season we saw cold shoulders, some bardot style tops coming through for spring summer but this has moved on massively for spring summer 2017 and it's definitely the season to embrace the statement sleeve.

Here we have a pinstriped blue and white blouse with big exaggerated ruffles on the shoulder area and running down the front. This would look fabulous with a pair of white jeans or white cropped trousers. Ideal for someone who's really petite and perhaps pear shaped, i.e. small on the top and wants to really create that extra volume, broadening shoulders. It's very statement in terms of the extra volume on the sleeve front. So if you really want that wow factor in a shirt perhaps moving on from a simple shirt look this is great option to go for with the ruffles on the shoulders and sleeves.

The bell sleeve is everywhere. Long sleeve with a puff on the end. Here we've got a pretty lace top from Zara with a bell sleeve on the end. We see the bell sleeve in dresses, knits, blouses - it's everywhere, and it's a sleeve that most people can embrace. Great if you don't want to flash too much flesh but embrace the fashion.

As I mentioned the cold shoulder, we've got the cut away at the top of the arm. It's still very big for spring summer 2017. I've got this very pretty floral dress from Whistles. A great nod to the trends, embracing florals, embracing the cold shoulder. A lovely summer garden party update incorporating 2 trend elements as well as orange which is also a strong colour this season.

In terms of a simple white shirt update. Why not go for one with a bit of a statement sleeve. Here we have one with an almost kimono style sleeve. We all love a white shirt in spring summer. It's a great layering tool but when you have a statement sleeve think about what you are going to layer it with. It's better as a statement, not covered up. Great work wear piece with a black skirt or pleated skirt to create that update in your work or casual wardrobe.

Here I have an off the shoulder blouse with again we see a lot in spring summer normally but here we have a sleeve update. We've got a pin tuck puff almost layered ruffles coming off the sleeve giving it quite a statement on the arm. Ideal for more pear-shaped, petit, or tall slim figure that wants that extra volume on top and cinched in at the waist. This is fabulous piece incorporating the pin stripe which is another very hot on trend for spring summer 2017 so again lots of trend points in one item but still very classic with the blue and white mix, very fresh.

And pink being a key colourway for the season. Go for something with a bit of a statement sleeve. Here we have some pleating coming through. We've seen pleating around for quite a few seasons now but it's being used almost as an embellishment on items rather than top to toe pleating. I love the pleated flounce at the end of this blouse with the pink and the pin tucks giving a bit of volume. Very sophisticated, very classic, a great wardrobe update.

Finishing off with a really statement white shirt. Not only does it have the cold shoulder but it also has this huge big exaggerated ruffle detailing running right across the midpoint of the blouse. Not for someone who has a full chest but for the more petit amongst us that are looking for more volume, perhaps want to put that padded bra away for the season. This is a fun different white shirt option.

Anyone and everyone can wear a statement sleeve and it's something different for your wardrobe if you don't have one already, if you didn't embrace the cold shoulder last season. Go for a bell sleeve on a dress or a top this season. A lovely wardrobe update and something you can really have fun with.

Client Testimonials

I found out that the clothes I was always buying did not create a good image for my shape or age. If only I had invested in a personal stylist years ago!

It really was time to get my wardrobe into shape. My personal stylist knew what worked on me and what didn't. The advice was invaluable and now I have an outfit for every occasion!

The whole experience has changed my perspective about me and my life and my clothes. I feel so much more confident and I can't thank you enough.

She knew exactly what would suit me. I tried on outfits I would never have thought of. It was fantastic to go shopping with a true expert.

Every time I go out I feel brilliant and it's so easy to dress now. I have had so many compliments which has really boosted my self-esteem.

I now know what to wear and when which is so helpful having just had a baby. My body shape has changed but I now know I can still look good. My husband is very happy too!

She's done things to my eyes that remind me of pictures taken 25 years ago!!! I would recommend the make-up masterclass to anyone. The advice is truly fantastic.

Every experience was over and above my expectations and something I will cherish for a very long time. I can't thank the whole team enough - my personal stylist, my make-up artist and my hair stylist were fantastic, and the organisation of the services were flawless.

It's the little changes that make all the difference, and you've raised her self-appreciation and confidence, great work. It's the best Christmas present I have ever bought my wife.
