Spring Summer 17 Trends: Retro Florals
Spring Summer 17 Trends: Retro Florals
Spring Summer wouldn't be the same without florals but for Spring Summer 2017 florals have moved on from the prissy ditzy country floral to what we call retro florals. I'm talking 60s, 70s wallpaper prints, much bolder, in your face and colourful for this season.
Starting off with this floral blouse. The blouse is definitely a key piece for Spring Summer 2017 and this one is championing the all over wallpaper floral retro print. A great instant update as a blouse option in your wardrobe. Team it with this season's distressed denim or layer under a bomber jacket for an instant wardrobe update.
Next up in this big bold statement all over print is this gorgeous jump suit from Warehouse. Now what I love about a dress or a jumpsuit with a big bold print is that you really conceal all manner of lumps and bumps. It really is the master of disguise. Point to note on this jump suit is the wide leg which makes it very figure flattering and nipped in at the waist with the high neck line. This is a great go-to piece that anyone can wear at any age. Layer under a jacket or just wear on its own for Spring Summer 2017.
Despite the skinny jean being very much around for Spring Summer 2017 trousers have moved on to more of a wide leg. Here I have this big bold colourful fun all over print on a floating almost culotte style wide leg trouser. Very on trend for SS17. You can team with a navy neutral, or white blazer. Just keep the focal point on the print. For those you want to push their fashion barriors a little more you can team it with a stripe or another floral to do what we call print mashing, just mixing it altogether. Here, for instance, I have a breton style stripe t-shirt and then you can team it with the floral trousers. Not a perfect match but it's not about being matching, it's about clashing, it's about wearing anything and everything you want together.
Then we have seperates. I have another pair of floral wide legged trousers and I also have a matching floral t-shirt. I picked these as it shows the pyjama style and mixing the same florals together - so not for the faint hearted! - but if you like separates and you're not one for a dress or jumpsuit then mixing two similar prints together is another way to create that flattering all over print look. Simply tone it down with a simple blazer.
The midi dress is another key trend item for SS 2017. Dresses are much longer in length, very wearable for all sizes, shapes and ages. Here is the one I've picked from Warehouse with this lovely bright pop of colour with a nice floral all over print. Figure flattering, perhaps belt it in the middle to give it some more shape, but you don't have to worry about tanning the legs and you can wear it with flats or heels depending on whether you want to dress it up or down. A very easy wearable piece with this beautiful statement print which you really could take from day to dinner.
The bomber jacket, which was centre stage for Autumn Winter 2016, is around for Spring Summer 2017 as well. It's more grown up now and a lot more sophisticated and here I've picked one from Zara with the retro floral print. Wear with distressed jeans or wear it with a skirt for a very much on trend look for Spring Summer 2017.
And lastly if the floral print is perhaps a step too far for you in your Spring Summer wardrobe try floral accessories like a head scarf - again another on trend accessory for spring summer 2017. A great way to get a nod to the floral trend without overwhelming your wardrobe with this season's retro florals.
There's something for everyone. Go big and bold with an all over floral look, mix and match stripes and florals together or play it down with the odd floral accessory. It's your choice and your wardrobe but this is the season to go bold on the floral front.
