Beachwear Style Tips
Whatever your age or shape if you are hitting the beach or lounging poolside this summer then what to wear will be uppermost in your mind! Check out our style tips below to make sure you look fantastic from head to toe...
1) Preparation is key:
As well as a manicure, pedicure, wax, eyelash and/or eyebrow tint, investing in a self tan before you put your bikini on will give you an instant confidence boost! There are lots of self tanners or body summer glow lotions out there to banish pale skin and prevent the need to sun yourself unnecessarily!
2) Choose a bikini or swimsuit to suit your body shape:
Dress for your shape. Pear shapes should look for a block-colour swimsuit with embellishments on the straps and neckline. Apple shapes look good in suits with detail near the hips and bust. If you're busty, a suit with good support will make you appear slimmer.
Don't shy away from patterns! A pattern is a fantastic disguise for a wobbly tummy, as long as it's consistent across the whole swimsuit. It can also be used to draw attention to your best bits. Pear shapes who want to disguise hips should wear a suit with a pattern on top and block colour on the bottom.
Darker coloured swimsuits will absorb light, making you appear slimmer and won't draw as much attention to your body as brighter shades.
Avoid shiny fabric. Metallic shimmer will draw attention to your body and highlight lumps and bumps. Opt for something matte instead.
Know your stripes! Vertical stripes slim and lengthen your entire body, while horizontal strips worn on your top half - with darker, block colour on your bottom half - accentuate your bust and slim your hips.
3) Cover up the bits you are not happy with:
These days kaftans, maxi dresses and sarongs are the essential supplement to your swimwear. The kaftan and sarong are great for hiding bulges and instantly make you look slimmer. The maxi dress - awash on the high street this season - are perfect for hiding a multiple of concerns and leave you free to lounge by the pool with a cocktail or wander around and sit in cafés looking fabulous whilst staying on trend!
4) Add instant glamour by accessorising:
Adding accessories will add instant detail and glamour to any outfit. The great thing about beach wear is there is little of it so adding earrings, a necklace and bracelets won't be overdoing it. This season tribal accessories and gold are hot high street favourites.
Invest in an oversized beach holdall. Carrying a large bag on the beach will balance a top heavy physique and draw the eye down the body, and away from any problem areas.
Make your beach hat a wide-brimmed one. Not only will it keep the sun off your face, the size of the hat will also give better proportions to your body, making your lower half look smaller.
Stilettos are obviously no good for hitting the beach, but heels elongate your legs and make you look thinner. Espadrilles work by the beach, and anything with a wedge will give you more stability.
